Frequently asked questions about audiences

How can TopicDNA help my social ad campaigns?

TopicDNA helps you create new audiences to use to increase performance and/or decrease costs in your Facebook ad campaigns. We do this through both creating new audiences and adjusting your budget.

Can I pull in audiences I have already created on Facebook?

Not at the moment, but we will be adding this ability into the platform in the near future. Currently, you can only create new audiences to use in your Facebook ad campaigns.

Can I upload CRM emails to create target audiences?

Yes, email upload is one of the options when you create a new audience. Please ensure it is in either a .csv or .txt file format. It does not need to be encrypted before the upload because we encrypt it with either SHA256 or MD5 upon successful upload into TopicDNA. We suggest that you upload at least 1000 emails to ensure a higher match rate.

Can I add audiences to a new campaign or existing ones?

You can do either as long as the campaign is active on Facebook. When you add it to your campaigns, it will add it as a new ad set.

Will TopicDNA audiences become less effective over time?

Data recency is very important to effective ad targeting so we run a mandatory audience refresh every quarter. Furthermore, we also check each audience in your account every month to see if they need to be refreshed. If they do, we will refresh the data and you will be notified of the changes.

Frequently asked questions about campaigns

How does TopicDNA optimize my campaigns?

TopicDNA helps you create new audiences to use to increase performance and/or decrease costs in your Facebook ad campaigns. We do this through both creating new audiences and adjusting your budget.

What is a campaign pool?

A campaign pool is a group of campaigns that you create which allows our algorithm to pool their ad budget together and adjust it according to our prediction algorithm. More budget will be allocated to the campaigns which we believe will perform better, thus increasing chances of greatly improving your overall campaign performance.

What kind of campaigns can be used in a campaign pool?

As long as your campaign is active, they can be pooled together. However, there needs to be two or more campaigns and they all need to be of the same objective to be used in the same campaign pool.

How are you different from Facebook's Campaign Budget Optimization (CBO)?

Facebook’s CBO algorithm adjusts your ad budget within campaigns, spreading it across different ad sets. TopicDNA’s Performance Budget Optimization (PBO) algorithm adjusts your ad budget across campaigns, so it can work in conjunction with CBO and is complementary to it.

If I wanted to add budget to my campaigns, do I add it in TopicDNA or Facebook?

TopicDNA automates the hardest parts of creating and executing your Facebook campaigns, however, it doesn't fully manage them as we didn’t want to fully recreate Facebook’s own dashboard. As such, any actions such as adding additional budget to your campaigns must be done in Facebook’s Ads Manager.

After I create my campaign pool, will you optimize it automatically?

No, at the moment you need to manually optimize your campaign pools. However, we are looking to build in automatic optimization scheduling in the near future.

Should I optimize my Campaign Pools immediately after creating them?

No, we recommend waiting at least one day to optimize to give our algorithm enough time to gather data.

How often should I optimize my campaign pools?

We recommend optimizing once a day for the duration of the campaign.

Does TopicDNA follow any rules or best practices set out by the social networks?

Our algorithm takes into account the 10% recommendation by Facebook. That is, we won't change the budget by more than 10% per day. That's why we recommend optimizing once per day and not multiple times per day.
